Kaisar Alhakim is a PGY-1 Pharmacy Resident currently involved in research focused on the management of Crohn’s disease, specifically examining the reasons for biologic drug switching in patients treated with ustekinumab (Stelara®). The research aims to identify factors such as side effects, financial concerns, and treatment ineffectiveness that influence patients’ decisions to change biologic therapies. By analyzing data from multiple centers, this study seeks to provide valuable insights that can inform treatment strategies and improve patient care in a home infusion setting.
In addition to conducting research, Kaisar works to explore the broader implications of biologic therapies, particularly in terms of accessibility, cost management, and patient outcomes. This work is dedicated to enhancing the understanding of how treatment decisions are made and contributing to the optimization of healthcare delivery for individuals with chronic conditions like Crohn’s disease.
